Community Health Services, Inc. is seeking a Medical Assistant Supervisor for its Dental Department. The Dental Assistant Supervisor provides clinical support services to providers and nurses as a part of the Primary Care Medical Home Team.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be a graduate of an accredited dental assisting or other clinical training program such as a nursing program
  • Certifications in Radiation and Infection Control through DANB
  • CPR certification at the healthcare provider level or eligible to obtain certification within 90 days of hire
  • Assist with the training, development, and evaluation of dental assistants
  • Manage the day-to-day assignment of Dental Assistants, including ensuring work is delegated appropriately and within the Dental Assistant scope of practice
  • Monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical workflows and recommend improvements to the Director to improve patient throughput
  • In collaboration with department leaders, support the continuous improvement of clinical operations and workflow, patient satisfaction, and clinical staff engagement
  • Assist the Director and Practice Manager in overseeing point of care testing procedures, including the performance and documentation of quality control testing\
  • Collaborate with Quality to monitor departmental compliance with infection control, dental equipment and device, and environment of care standards
  • Manage the ordering of clinical supplies to ensure inventory is adequate to support patient care
  • Leading by example and looking to build efficiency in regular patient flow and should ultimately create an excellent patient experience in clinical areas and positive experience with dental assistant team.
  • Facilitating Dental Assistant team meetings and huddles, maintaining records of meeting minutes.
  • Being involved with the recruitment, selection process and training process of dental assistant staff.
  • Assist with onboarding process of Dental Assisting students. Facilitate and acts as a preceptor for all Dental Assisting students during their externship at CHS.
  • Preparing and take responsibility for the dental assistant’s schedule and ensuring coverage is maintained at all times.
  • Ensuring efficient daily flow of schedule is met daily.
  • Identifying any issues or via audits that impacts on dental assisting resources and proposing solutions and reporting to the Dental Director or Practice Manager.
  • Promote, monitor, and participate in all quality improvement activities.
  • Work with Dental Director, Dental Liaisons, and Clinical compliance officer team to ensure clinical standards are maintained in accordance to regulatory standards
  • Support care coordination prior to patient visits by:
    • Calling to confirm appointments and reason for visit, as directed
    • Gathering pertinent external documents to support patient visit
    • Working with the PCMH team to anticipate patient and provider needs for visit
    • Partnering with the PCMH team and the provider to maintain consistent patient flow
    • Preparing exam rooms with supplies and maintaining equipment to ensure a safe environment
    • Assisting with prior authorizations as needed
  • Assist providers and dental assistants during patient visits by:
    • Greeting patients and accompanying them to the clinical area
    • Completing the intake and timely documentation of the reason for visit, accurate vital signs, height and weight, pain assessment in the electronic health record and reviewing referral status, patient self-management goals and other tasks as directed
    • Contributing to a smooth flow of patients by monitoring the provider schedule
    • Communicating pertinent information to the provider, including status and/or results of referrals, hospitalization and diagnostic imaging
    • As directed, performing x-rays in advance of provider visit
    • Supporting medication reconciliation by reviewing the medications list with the patient to verify current medications
    • Supporting population health by discussing, investigating, and addressing gaps in care with the patient and provider
    • Helping the patient identify self-management goals and documenting those goals as appropriate
    • Assisting with procedures as appropriate incorporating Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
    • Taking dental impressions and pouring models for dental prosthetics
    • Providing education on post-procedure instructions and general oral health care and next visit information
    • Communicates to provider any pertinent social determinants of health that may need to be addressed
  • Contributes to the efforts and outcomes of the PCMH team and supports Population Health efforts between visits by
    • Maintaining required training for competency of CPR, HIPAA and Compliance, Waived testing, Infection Control, sterilization (if appropriate), and other topics as assigned.
    • Performing sterilization of instruments, if trained and deemed competent to do so
    • Participating in outbound calling as assigned or as necessary to confirm appointments or bring patients into care
  • Maintain strict infection control standards in accord with CHS protocols and universal precautions OSHA and CLIA standards
  • Communicate with patients in their preferred language, using interpretive services as necessary, and interpreting for provider if proficiency in language has been established
  • Perform all duties in accordance with CHS Core Values, Compliance Program, and other policies and procedures
  • Participate in quality and process improvement efforts in the department and the organization as requested or as directed
  • Complete training and professional development requirements in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed
